When I shopped at Trader Joe's yesterday I picked up a couple cans of organic pumpkin. I've been craving fall veggies, root veggies, squash and pumpkin. I love trying out new concoctions of foods I like and while I'm not a master chef by any means, I like to make food that tastes delicious and is simple.
My latest favorite recipe is my chocolate whey protein shake with water, ice and half an avocado. The avocado adds a creamy texture- similar to a milk shake or ice cream. No joke! I've been calling it my crack on ice. The avocado adds a good fat and fills you up. Today I spiked my protein shake with pumpkin. I mixed 2 scoops of Vanilla Whey Protein (I use Bluebonnet: Whey Protein Isolate French Vanilla) with ice and water and added 1/2 avocado and 1/2 can of organic pumpkin. The pumpkin adds about 10 grams of carbs, of which 4 grams are fiber and 4 grams are sugar (yep, pumpkin contains natural sugar). It's fat free and has virtually no protein but it adds additional creaminess and fills you up. It tastes like fall and is absolutely delicious.

Have any protein shake recipes you care to share? They should be free of added sugar and low on the carb side, while providing at least 20 grams of protein.

ReplyDeleteLove the shake...just a note, it is 1/2 a cup not can...I did it the fist time with 1/2 a can and it was too much pumpkin. When I check the 10grms of carbs and saw the label, I realized the change and tried it again. It totally fills you up!
