Detox Day 2: Overload and Powernapping

Today went by way too fast. I'm learning a big lesson at the moment about passing tasks on to others to free up my time to do the work I love and do well and not overload myself with projects. Let me tell you - it is a real challenge but it is one that I will conquer.

I have a German TV crew visiting from Germany. They are shooting the pilot for a show about successful Germans living in the US. Tomorrow we will be shooting a workout on the Brooklyn Bridge, a few scenes at my apartment and office and then we'll be heading upstate for the weekend for more filming. We will wrap it up on Monday with a few scenes in Manhattan, a workout with one of my private clients and a meeting with a few power women friends.

In the summer another German station portrayed the boot camp and my work and life in an amazing documentary about New York City. Take a look at the trailer and the outtakes. Can't speak German? Oh well...

Back to detox mode. Food wise I did well. No appetite and I hydrated well drinking my detox tea. I even napped for 30 minutes today with my pup and it did wonders for my energy. I will try to learn power-napping to get a snooze in here and there, even if just for a few minutes.
The highlight of my day was coming home tonight and seeing a wonderful display of everything that was sitting on the table by the door. Pup had demonstrated her ‘clean up skills’. I guess she’s back to the dog house once the adults are at work.

I've received a lot of detox questions so far. I'm posting a few for you all to learn.

Ariane, quick question regarding sweetners/sugar - a few months ago my coworkers recommended using Coconut crystal to sweeten Greek yogurt. It gives some texture to the yogurt and it is low the on the GI.
I've attached a link in case you are not familar with this product. Is this OK to use, or should I cut it out?
Thanks, Lori

Hi Lori,

1 tbsp still contains 7g of sugar, so it's no improvement over sugar. Avoid adding anything sweet to your foods and you'll do a lot better. Whenever you eat something with sugar you're signaling your body to store fat, even if the label says 'organic' or 'natural' or 'low-fat' – hormonally, it makes no difference.

The issue with agave and coconut as sweeteners is that they are fructose and that leads to fat storage faster than eating a piece of bread or other carbs. The less sugar from fruit, the faster the fat loss.

Ariane, my husband is very excited about his detox. I am trying to help him, but after reading your blog and seeing your bread intake, I got confused. He is supposed to eliminate all starches from his diet, does this include whole wheat bread? The fruit elimination, is this only for the first week? Does he need to eliminate dairy too?
Drinking water will be one of his biggest challenges. Thanks, Monica

Monica.,
grains, dairy and fruit should be eliminated in the first week. i choose to have bread for breakfast but yesterday I had too much, obviously. A cup of oatmeal or a slice of bread in the morning is fine but the rest of the day should consist of protein and veggies.

After the first week everyone can decide whether to add anything back in and what to add. It should be done in a step-wise approach but I'll be sending specific email instructions daily as to what to do, so it will be clear.
