When it comes to picking clean meals that put your body into fat burning, it's usually easy to pick a good breakfast. Lunches and dinners can be simple to, just as long as you stick to lean protein and veggies, but snacks are usually a challenge for many of my clients. Snacks can easily load up in calories more than a meal. Bars aren't ideal because they're usually high in sugar and processed ingredients, and nuts and cheese are satisfying but the fat can add up quickly and stall fat loss. My three favorite snacks these days are kale chips,
chia seed puddings, and turkey wraps.
Kale Chips: I recently bought my own food
dehydrater, simply because I'm addicted to kale chips and wanted to make my
own. I blend up a red bell pepper with 4 tbsp of sesame seeds, a bit of lemon
juice, tamari sauce, coconut oil, chia seeds, and curry powder in my
NutriBullet and then pour it over the kale leaves until they're completely
covered. I then dehydrate them for about 7 hours. They're absolutely delicious.
When I don't have the time to make them, I buy Rhythm Superfoods' Kale Chips
with the Curry Bombay seasoning.
I love kale chips because they're raw and still
contain all enzymes, are crunchy and satisfying and great finger food.
Chia Seed Pudding: Another
favorite snack is chia seed puddings. I love an afternoon caffeine pick-me up
that combines the anti-oxidant benefits of dark chocolate with the energy boost
of a shot of espresso:
In my NutriBullet I combine a shot of espresso, a
cup of unsweetened vanilla almond millk, with 4 tablespoons of dark cocoa
powder, 1 scoop of chocolate whey protein powder, 4 tablespoons of chia seeds
and 5 ice cubes. I blend it up and let it sit for a few minutes until it
thickens. Absolutely delicious. I love chia seed puddings because chia seeds
contain omega-3 fatty acids, absorb about 8x their weight in water, are
filling, and improve the digestion. The chocolate satisfies any cravings, and
the whole dish feels just like an indulgent dessert.
Turkey/Avocado Wrap: Lastly,
for a super-quick fix, I usually roll up Applegate Roasted Chicken breast
(organic) around a slice of avocado and a slice of egg. Good fat and protein -
super-filling, and the texture has something very satisfying to it.
