Do you know how fat burning is done?

Most participants who enroll in Slim & Strong or the Boot Camp classes are looking to get lean and defined. They want to see their muscle tone and a flat stomach, and strong and lean legs. They want to feel better in their skin and have more energy. Many think that by exercising alone they can lose weight and change the way their body looks. The truth is that working out alone will take forever to produce lasting weight loss and changing your diet to a fat burning diet will create 80% of any change.

To determine just what the impact was of diet vs exercise, a study looked at two groups: One group of 6 endurance athletes exercised for seven days to burn off 1,000 calories per day - 7,000 calories total in a week. They kept their diet steady and lost 1.7 lbs in a week.
The other group of endurance athletes reduced their food intake by 1,000 calories daily while keeping their exercise level steady and lost 4.8 lbs in a week.
This goes to show you that diet has a much greater effect on weight loss than exercise. However, keep in mind that you ultimately don't just want to lose weight, but you want to be sure the weight is coming from fat and not muscle or water.

If you're looking to get lean and defined then your diet must consist of sufficient protein to prevent muscle loss. Losing muscle should be prevented at all cost since muscle is your body's furnace - it keeps your metabolism humming and burns energy even while you're sitting at your desk. Also, the right ratio of carbohydrates vs protein vs fat is key in creating a certain body shape.
