Sugar cravings aren't anything abnormal when the colder days arrive. The shorter days and lack of sunlight can cause us to seek comfort in carbs and sweets. Not that that makes you feel better in the long run, but sometimes you just need something to pick you up. And, before you reach for fake sweeteners that don't satisfy your sweet cravings but make you overeat, go for the real deal and make yourself some delicious Spicy Hot Cocoa!
Last night I just needed something sweet and so I made a delicious drink that hit the spot. One cup was all I needed and it actually tasted better than the fatty dairy version of hot chocolate.

Here's what you need:
- 1 big cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk (use one without carrageenan, an additive that causes inflammation in the stomach. Silk or the refrigerated Trader Joe's brand are great).
- 1 tablespoon of dark cocoa (it doesn't have any sugar but loads of antioxidants and raises your serotonin levels, which makes you feel happy!) I love the Trader Joe's Cocoa Powder made with Colombian chocolate.
- A dash of cinnamon and chili powder
- Stevia to taste (stevia is made from a leaf and does not raise your blood sugar because it doesn't contain sugar)
